DIY Light-Box

With my bouquet of flowers aging, I decided to try using my homemade light-box again to take photos. I used my macro lens, adjusted the settings on my camera to capture bright, backlit images.

The following have been taken into Affinity Photo to edit and brighten a little further.

There is still a blush to the background, so I will likely take it back into Affinity to remove that slight discolouration. Otherwise, I think the photos are getting closer to what I want to achieve with the light box.

A Beautiful Bouquet

A Beautiful Bouquet

I was given a bouquet of beautiful flowers from my parents recently. The flowers prompted a photo shoot using my macro lens and flash/flashlight. After transferring the images to my computer via photos, I moved them over to Affinity Photo to do a bit of editing. I am pretty happy with how the photos turned out.

These are the photos that show the variety of flowers in the bouquet. Not as happy with these pictures; I needed better lighting and a different lens to accomplish what I wanted.

Below are close ups of the flowers and I am much happier with how they turned out.

Summer has arrived, maybe

Summer has arrived, maybe

Summer weather has been tricky to find so far…

We’ve had so much rain and I’m sure there’s more to come; nevertheless, yesterday was beautiful! The camera club I belong to had an outing to Burleigh Falls. I strongly recommend a visit, gorgeous views.

Here is a selection of photos that I took, either with my phone’s camera or my Canon EOS 80D.

I expected to be swarmed by mosquitos – those little monsters love me. But the breeze picked up enough to keep them away and kept the dragonflies entertained.

Turtles climbed up on the rocks to enjoy the elusive sun. Ducks, geese and even vultures showed up for our morning shoot.

Photo Catch Up

Photo Catch Up

It has been months since I have shared any of my creative pursuits; nonetheless, I have been taking photos.

In camera club, we used light boxes to play with exposure levels last month. It was so much fun. I loved the way the pictures turned out. I even attempted making a light box of my own. I am just not sure that the lights I purchased are adequate for the effect. I used a shadow box and a string of lights inside.

The pictures above are what I captured during camera club. With practice and editing, I think they could be quite good. Recently, I purchased Affinity Photo and started editing images.  Below is an example of that editing. I was able to remove the gray shadow that was cast on the right side of the image.

The results of my light box which needs a few modifications to become more effective are:

I thought I would try experimenting with diffusing the light using small plastic stones. It looks sort of interesting, but definitely not the effect I wanted to achieve. I think that the box is too small and I need to change the white overlay. unadjustedraw_thumb_3f47.jpg
